Shape the Future of Risk Management in Energy Trading

As Head of Risk Management, you ensure that our trading business remains resilient, profitable, and future-ready in a highly dynamic energy market environment. You combine strategic leadership, quantitative expertise, and technological innovation to create a risk organization that enables informed decision-making and sustainable growth.

In this role, you will lead the continuous evolution of our risk management framework, strengthen the connection between risk and commercial decision-making, and help position risk management as a key driver of business success.

Your impact:

• You build and lead a high-performing Risk organization, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous development while empowering a team of 13 professionals to perform at their best.
• You shape the future of risk management, continuously improving operating models, governance structures, and collaboration across Trading, Analysis, Controlling, Back Office, IT, DevOps, and Group Risk Management.
• You enable sound business decisions by ensuring robust assessment and monitoring of market, credit, liquidity, and operational risks across all commodities, products, and portfolios.
• You drive excellence in risk systems and data, taking ownership of the risk-related landscape within our ETRM environment and ensuring transparency, reliability, scalability, and data quality.
• You support business growth and innovation by evaluating new products, markets, and trading activities, delivering clear risk perspectives and implementation readiness assessments.
• You advance quantitative risk capabilities, strengthening valuation approaches, risk methodologies, and model frameworks that support effective portfolio and trading decisions.
• You establish strong governance and control frameworks, ensuring risks are managed appropriately while enabling innovation, including in emerging areas such as algorithmic trading.
• You represent the trading risk perspective at senior management level, acting as a trusted partner for internal committees and the central Group Risk Management function.
• You contribute to the strategic direction of the business, translating emerging risks, market developments, and regulatory requirements into meaningful actions and priorities.
• You accelerate digitalization and automation, driving scalable risk processes, analytics, and reporting capabilities that support a growing and evolving organization.
• You identify future challenges and opportunities early, helping the company proactively manage risks while unlocking sustainable value creation.

What you bring:

• A Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative discipline, or an equivalent qualification
• At least 5 years of experience in energy trading, risk management, or a comparable energy markets environment
• Strong understanding of power, gas, and renewable energy markets
• Proven expertise in quantitative analysis, model development, validation, valuation methodologies, and risk frameworks
• Experience with ETRM systems, digital solutions, data-driven processes, programming or related technology environments
• Demonstrated success in leading and developing teams, managing performance, and driving organizational change
• The ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives and align diverse stakeholders around common objectives
• Strong communication and influencing skills, combined with strategic thinking and execution capability
• Fluency in German and English
