Long-standing Partner for "Jugend forscht" in East Brandenburg

Supporting Young Talents Together

At the regional “Jugend forscht” competition in Eastern Brandenburg, young people up to the age of 21 present their innovative ideas and explore exciting research questions. EWE supports this junior science competition as a sponsoring partner, where participants can qualify for subsequent national-level events.

Germany’s most well-known youth science competition enters its 61st round in 2026 under the motto “Maximum Perspective.” “Jugend forscht” invites pupils, apprentices, and students with a passion for STEM subjects to showcase creative and forward-looking research projects.

“Young people are encouraged to ask questions like: ‘How does this work? Why is it the way it is? How can it be improved?’ There are many possible answers—and that’s exactly what ‘Jugend forscht’ is all about. Don’t wait, take part,” explains Dr. Hendrik Stiemer, Head of the Eastern Brandenburg regional competition. EWE has been actively involved as a sponsoring partner and organizer of the regional competition since 2001.

Building Connections for Future Careers

Participation in the competition offers young people valuable opportunities. “In some cases, contact with companies during the competition has even led to future apprenticeship positions,” says Dr. Hendrik Stiemer. Participants don’t need to be the next Einstein to join “Jugend forscht”—curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to take on new challenges are more than enough.

On February 25, 2026, the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau once again hosted the Eastern regional competition, bringing together young talents from mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and engineering. Students presented their research projects to a jury, the public, and regional partners. A total of 14 projects from Eastern Brandenburg qualified for the next round of the competition.

Impressions from the competition day and an interview with Dr. Hendrik Stiemer can be found in the hallo nachbar online magazine.
