Our Green Financing

EWE has been working on sustainable energy systems for many years and actively supports climate protection measures. We are consistently pursuing this path and will be climate neutral by 2035. On the way to a climate-neutral future, EWE is relying on green financing. Green finance promotes raising capital and investing in projects with an environmental benefit.

Green Finance Framework

In May 2021, EWE published for the first time a so-called Green Finance Framework. EWE has aligned itself with the recognized Green Bond Principles (GBPs) of the International Capital Market Association (ICMA) and the Loan Market Association Green Loan Principles (GLPs), which promote transparency in the use of the proceeds and their corresponding environmental impact.

The proceeds of our green bond, first issued in June 2021, amount to € 500 million. According to our Green Finance Framework, these can be used to finance or refinance projects in the field of renewable energies (onshore wind, offshore wind, solar / PV, power grids, hydrogen infrastructure and electricity storage), energy efficiency projects (fiber optic grids) and clean transportation (charging infrastructure for e-mobility).
