Future sole Managing Director of Alterric named as Dr Frank May

Green energy market leader gains experienced manager / Start on April 1, 2022

Aurich/Oldenburg. The Aloys Wobben Stiftung (AWS) and the EWE AG have appointed a sole Managing Director for the joint venture they established in April, the German green energy market leader Alterric. On April 1st, 2022, Dr Frank May will take up this role working for the onshore wind experts with headquarters in Aurich and offices in Germany and France. The 55-year-old is currently Managing Director and CEO for Western Germany at Actemium, a branch of the global concessions, construction and energy group VINCI S.A., and brings with him many years of experience in the energy industry and industrial plant engineering.

Stefan Dohler, Chairman of the board of EWE AG: ‘We are very pleased to get such a well-versed manager on board in Dr Frank May, who will work together with our experienced and motivated experts as CEO to build up Alterric further. The job involves bringing together the young company as a team to implement our ambitious investment targets with the public, politicians and society, thus making an important contribution to a climate-neutral future in Germany and Europe. We are committed to this path together and wish him every success.’

Heiko Janssen: Chairman of the board of AWS, adds: ‘His professional background in the energy industry and plant engineering and his extensive experience as a manager, including in the integration of companies and the associated change processes, make Dr Frank May an excellent fit for Alterric. He is used to keeping an overview of all the stages of the value-added chain and to developing international markets – several of which are markets in which Alterric plans to grow. At the same time, his roots are in northern Germany just like ours. I wish him all the best.’

Dr Frank May, designated Alterric Managing Director: ‘Alterric is a highly exciting company with ambitious shareholders and employees with many years of experience, who have made the company a market leader among producers of green energy in Germany. The job as Managing Director thus greatly appeals to me and I am looking forward to joining Alterric and working with the team to shape its further course.’

Dr Frank May, 55, graduated as a ‘Diplom-Ingenieur’ of Mechanical Engineering (RWTH Aachen) and earned his doctorate in Bochum and Turku (Finland). In his professional career he has gathered vast experience in business management, in the strategic development of companies in the energy sector, and in joining together companies and supporting the cultural aspects of these change processes. For several years, Dr Frank May was appointed as Managing Director/Member of the Board in the Vattenfall Group, where he was responsible for the areas of disposal, district heating, decentralised solutions and energy generation from renewable sources on a national and international level. He is currently working as Managing Director at Actemium, a branch of the global concessions, construction and energy group VINCI S.A., where he is in charge of the business segment of services in western Germany. Around 1,600 employees working in 40 locations fall under his sphere of responsibility, providing services for industrial clients from the fields of plant engineering, electrotechnology, automation and digitalisation. He is currently living with his family in Hamburg.

Alterric develops, project manages and operates onshore wind farms. The company has more than 2,300 megawatts of installed power in its portfolio in total, and a project pipeline of more than 9,400 megawatts. That makes Alterric market leader in the onshore wind sector in Germany. The aim is to add more than 200 megawatts every year and expand the portfolio to up to five gigawatts in 2030. Investments totalling around four billion euros are thus planned by 2030. The AWS (sole shareholder of the Aurich-based wind energy converter manufacturer ENERCON) and the EWE each hold 50 per cent of the shares in Alterric. The aim is to achieve growth in Germany and France over the next years, and in other European countries too. To this end, the two shareholders have consolidated their successful project developers and wind farm specialists. As Alterric they will drive forward the expansion of renewable energies and – just like the shareholders – are firmly committed to climate protection, sustainability and preserving the environment.
