EWE OSS signs framework agreement with Amprion Offshore

Offshore-Teams supports transmission system operator with grid connection system

Oldenburg, October 20th 2020. EWE supports Amprion Offshore with the construction of several grid connection systems for offshore wind energy in the North Sea. The offshore subsidiary of the Oldenburg energy company, EWE OSS, has concluded a corresponding framework agreement with the Offshore branch of the Dortmund based transmission system Operator Amprion. Amprion operates the transmission network in most of western and southern Germany - but will for the first time also land offshore electricity via its Hanekenfähr substation in Lingen (Emsland). Corresponding network connections for marine wind farms are to be created under the project names “DolWin4” and “BorWin4”. EWE OSS has been supporting the two projects since July 2019 and is now taking on additional tasks.

Peter Barth, one of two managing directors of Amprion’s offshore branch, says: “We are pleased to have a very experienced and accomplished partner from the coastal region on board in EWE OSS. The framework contract that has now been concluded is an expression of the mutual endeavor to establish a long-term and cooperative collaboration that goes beyond the two current projects."

Arthur Böttcher (Business Development, EWE OSS) explains: “The planning of such high-voltage direct current transmission systems is a very young and exciting topic for us and we are pleased that we can contribute our offshore-specific experience to these projects. After we had been part of the projects since last summer on the topics of health, safety and environmental management (HSE), automation and SCADA technology, we are now providing further consultants, engineers and project managers from various technical disciplines. This focuses in particular on the areas of project management, planning and operation of offshore stations and cables and the interfaces to the offshore wind farms. "
