Shaping the future

Innovations for the energy revolution

Making innovation a part of everyday life is EWE’s objective on the energy market, and to achieve this we need to forge new paths. We have many ideas about how we would like to shape the energy revolution, how our customers can play a role in it, and how we can make their lives easier.

Setting the course for tomorrow, today

Our current circumstances make it clear that the only way we can protect the environment for future generations is to change our lifestyles and adopt a more sustainable approach.  EWE is working on many different approaches and solutions to help us on this journey.

Science shows us that there is no single solution to slow down climate change; multiple approaches are needed. EWE recognises the multiplicity required and focuses on multi-faceted solutions, such as renewable energies from wind energy and solar power, storing these energies in hydrogen, and strengthening new approaches to mobility.

We try out unconventional approaches, apply modern working methods and forge alliances with partners that complement our capabilities, and innovate in order to seize the opportunities presented by digitalisation. This culture of innovation enables us to develop the speed and strength to transform our knowledge into successful solutions.

Our central areas of focus

Climate-neutral in all aspects

We will become climate neutral by 2035. Since various factors affect the climate, we need to find holistic solutions and multi-faceted approaches. The energy and transport revolutions are part of the process, and hydrogen applications and synthetic fuels will also help us to achieve our goal. All aspects of the climate must be taken into account. Find out more about our path to get there.

Moving together into the digital age

Digitalisation impacts us all, and EWE in particular. First of all, because we are expanding high-speed internet in our regions to provide digital accessibility for everyone. And secondly, because the energy revolution can only succeed with digital support. We take a look at our digital business models and explain what digital accessibility might actually mean in concrete terms.

Hydrogen as the driver of the energy revolution

Industry and transport are becoming more climate-friendly, and hydrogen plays a pivotal role in their climate neutrality. We are doing pioneering work by operating the first hydrogen cavern in Germany. But what is hydrogen, exactly? And what colours, or kinds, of hydrogen are there? We explain it to you.

Wind energy as a component of the energy revolution

Holistic solutions are needed for the energy revolution to succeed. EWE has been a pioneer in the generation of wind power for many decades. We want to continue to shape this area and to expand our role, and northwest Germany offers the best conditions for this. Wind energy offers a broad range of potential applications. Learn more about this pillar of the German energy transition.

On the move with sustainable mobility

If we want to protect the climate, we also have to think of moving towards climate neutrality in our personal transport and of how we transport the goods we use in our daily lives. Different approaches are needed here. We see enormous opportunity in electric mobility, but hydrogen will also play a vital role in transport. EWE offers solutions for the mobility revolution.

Benefiting from sustainable experience

EWE has long been a pioneer in sustainable solutions and concepts. The first wind turbines were installed back in the 1990s, followed by the first offshore wind farm in the 2000s, and EWE remains a clear leader in this area today. We were one of the first companies to commit to the concept of hydrogen, recently putting Germany’s first hydrogen cavern into operation, a testament to our commitment to rethinking and improving our approach to the climate. Our years of experience in the fields of renewable energies and digitalisation make this possible. These issues are not mutually exclusive; they feed into each other. The only way we can maintain an environment that is worth living in is through a swift and comprehensive transformation. We are mindful of our responsibility and we are committed to making daily efforts to shape the future in a new and sustainable way. For a good today and a better tomorrow!
