Sustainability has been an important topic for the EWE Group since many years. Here you can find a review of times, where sustainability wasn't the high-classified topic like it is today.

  • About 23.000 m² of grass and lawn space on EWE's properties are being turned into flowering fields
  • 76% of the electricity generated in our networks somes from renewable energies, as does 97% of EWE NETZ's own electricity
  • EWE was able to reduce COemissions from electricity production by 40% (compared to 2005)
2019 
  • Various companies in the EWE Group sign Diversity Charter
  • EWE repeatedly makes it possible for municipalities in the Ems/Weser/Elbe region to participate in EWE NETZ - 123 shareholders in total
2018 
  • EWE involves the citizens of the communities of Hatten and Köhlen in two large regional wind farms
2017
  • More than 75% of the electricity in EWE NETZ's network comes from renewable energies
  • EWE repeatedly makes it possible for municipalities in the Ems/Weser/Elbe region to participate in EWE NETZ - 82 shareholders in total
  • EWE introduces concrete sustainability requirements for suppliers, with immediate effect

 

2015
  • EWE approves a sustainability strategy for the entire Group
  • EWE begins operation of "Riffgat", the first commercial wind farm in the German North Sea
2014

  • EWE makes it possible for municipalities in the Ems/Weser/Elbe region to participate in the EWE NETZ network subsidiary for the first time – 64 take advantage of this option

 

2013

  • As the consortium leader, EWE establishes Germany’s first offshore wind farm “alpha ventus”, which can supply 70,000 households

2010

  • EWE introduces the E3 electric car, which serves as the basis for research into the integration of electric cars into the electricity network. Learn more about electric mobility

 

2009

  • EWE starts “eTelligence”, a four-year smart grid field test, in Cuxhaven

 

2008

  • Establishment of the "NEXT ENERGY” EWE Research Centre for Energy Technology at the University of Oldenburg
  • EWE opens one of the first biogas processing plants in the nation

 

2007

  • EWE builds the tallest wind turbine in the world at the time – 180 metres

 

2004
  • EWE establishes the EWE Foundation to support education, training, science and culture. Learn more about the EWE Foundation
2002

  • EWE operates 44 wind energy plants that generate more than 44 million kWh of electricity


 

1999

  • EWE builds the largest wind farm in Germany at the time, in Pilsum. Its 10 turbines have a power output of 300 kW each
