Efficient systems in Bremen

Through its partnership with swb, Bremen and Bremerhaven have been included in the business regions of the EWE Group since 2009. swb has been active in the state of Bremen for more than 150 years as an energy and water
provider as well as a waste disposal service provider. As a specialist
for city infrastructure, swb ideally complements existing EWE expertise
with large areas.

Heavily populated areas offer little room for producing energy. This means that generation must be concentrated in larger-scale plants. swb operates conventional power plants in the state of Bremen with optimised efficiency, recycling heat produced during energy generation for use as district or process heating for households and industries. Furthermore, two swb power plants generate heat and electricity from waste in an environmentally friendly way. As far as renewable energies are concerned, there are many small-scale power plants in Bremen plus two technically sophisticated plants: the Weser power plant and the photovoltaics system integrated into the Weser stadium.

The group sees itself as a comprehensive service provider and partner to the city for infrastructure solutions. EWE Group companies operate the entire administrative telecommunications network including the city’s fire alarms and traffic lights, look after its fountains and provide energy-efficient and secure street lighting solutions.
