EWE merges its two subsidiaries

EWE TEL and Teleos join forces

Oldenburg, Herford, Germany, 26 August 2008.  EWE TEL GmbH and Teleos GmbH & Co. KG have joined together to form one company. The two regional telecommunications companies were merged retroactively to 1 January 2008 and now operate under the name EWE TEL GmbH. Teleos will continue to function as a brand of EWE TEL GmbH. “This allows us to concentrate our strengths to a greater extent than before, and secure and bolster the competitiveness of the companies as they become one legal entity”, said Heiko Harms, Board member for Network and ICT at EWE Aktiengesellschaft, the 100 per cent holding company of EWE TEL and Teleos. Teleos’s products, prices and contacts will remain the same for existing customers.
EWE Aktiengesellschaft acquired the remaining 49 per cent share in Teleos from E.ON Westfalen Weser AG prior to the merger of the companies. In addition, at the end of August EWE AG will transfer its 100 per cent holdings in Bremer Kommunikationstechnik GmbH, Bremen, and BCC Business Communication Company GmbH, Brunswick, to EWE TEL GmbH. This is due to the EWE Group concentrating its telecommunications activities under the umbrella of EWE TEL.

Teleos’s existing business will be expanded and developed further. EWE TEL’s CEO Hans-Joachim Iken said, “As a regional telecommunications company, being involved directly and locally with our customers is especially important for us. Because of this, our parent company EWE AG will uphold the guarantees made in the course of acquiring the share regarding the Herford and Paderborn sites and employee numbers.” Norbert Scholz, managing director of Herford-based Teleos is pleased with the benefits of the merger. “Teleos is now part of a very strong regional telecommunications company. This strength benefits not only our employees, but also our customers. Together we can improve our competitive position, develop innovative products and focus better on meeting the demands of both our private and our corporate customers,” he explained. As part of the changes, Eggenet, a Paderborn-based brand belonging to Teleos, will be repositioned as a direct EWE TEL brand.

The merger means the enlargement of Oldenburg-based EWE TEL GmbH’s workforce to around 1,200. The company now has a total of 419,500 customers, of which approximately 54,000 are attributed to Teleos. Bremen-based nordcom is a further EWE TEL GmbH brand. The wholly owned subsidiary of energy service provider EWE AG is a one-stop shop for all telecommunications services in Lower Saxony and Bremen as well as parts of Brandenburg and North Rhine Westphalia: DSL, telephony and mobile telecommunications, and premium solutions for business clients, from traditional telecommunications systems to integrated network and IT solutions.

EWE, headquartered in Oldenburg, is one of Germany's largest utility companies. Its range of goods and services includes electricity, gas and water supplies, energy and environmental technology, gas transportation and trading, and telecommunications and information technology. Thus, EWE provides a range of classical and innovative services at one source.
