Price comparison of gas suppliers: EWE is test winner

Oldenburg, 13th January 2006. In light of the current gas price discussions and the latest class lawsuits in Brandenburg – including against EWE – the company refers to a current gas price comparison conducted by the information service provider Verivox. The survey was published by the Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung on Thursday (12th January). According to this EWE in Germany offers by far the most favourable prices.

The comparison also showed that the EWE gas prices from 2005 to 2006 recorded the lowest price increase.

EWE commenting on the current class lawsuit stated: “For several months now we have offered to hold a meeting to clarify matters with the consumer centre in Brandenburg (initiator of the lawsuit). However, the consumer centre has always rejected this offer. We are awaiting service of the action. In the past few weeks the local court in Oldenburg has upheld the EWE pricing policy in two judgements”. According to these, the EWE is one of the most favourably priced providers of natural gas in Germany and in Eastern Germany the most favourable.

By the way EWE says that the EWE electricity prices were also among the most favourable across the country. This could also be read in the edition of the Frankfurt Allgemeine Zeitung dated 11th January 2006.
