Electricity and gas lines are separated from energy sales
EWE establishes network company
Oldenburg, June 28, 2006. The Oldenburg-based energy provider EWE AG has hived off its network activities into a wholly owned subsidiary, the EWE NETZ GmbH. This structural change was entered in the commercial register on June 28, 2006. Managing directors of the new company based in Oldenburg are Nikolaus Behr and Torsten Maus. EWE NETZ employs a workforce of around 1 600 and generates an annual turnover of 1.4 billion euros. “Nothing changes for our customers. Their contact partners remain the Service Points”, explained EWE Chairman of the Board of Management, Dr. Werner Brinker.
The hiving off of the electricity and gas networks has been occasioned by the requirements of the energy act (EnWG) of July 13, 2005. It requires the energy providers to separate their electricity and natural gas networks from generation, trading and sales.
EWE NETZ operates almost 80,000 kilometers of electricity network in the Ems-Weser-Elbe region and a natural gas network totaling over 50,000 kilometers in the regions Ems-Weser-Elbe and Brandenburg as well as on the island of Rügen and in parts of Northern West-Pomerania. Its remit includes operational management, repair, maintenance and the expansion of the network infrastructure as well as network sales. In addition, the new company will provide network services to third parties. Furthermore, EWE NETZ also operates drinking water networks and a wide-ranging communications network. EWE NETZ operates in six network regions from over 80 sites which means a strong presence boasting a high degree of supply security and rapid deployment possibilities.
