swb: the leading energy services provider in the state of Bremen
swb AG is the energy supply and waste disposal service provider for Bremen and Bremerhaven. The company was established in 1854 and has been part of the EWE Group (100 per cent) since October 2009. The Free and Hanseatic City of Bremen continues to hold one share in the company. swb AG, together with its subsidiaries and shareholdings, form the swb group. Its head office is in Bremen.swb provides around 700,000 people in the state of Bremen and the neighbouring municipalities with electricity, natural gas, drinking water and heating. In addition, the group is involved in the treatment of wastewater and energy production from solid waste. Technical services complete the offering, including for instance operating power plants, supply networks, and street and traffic lighting as well as land management. With a net installed capacity of over 1,000 megawatts in conventional power generation, swb is one of the largest regional energy supply companies in Germany with its own electricity and heat production capacity and thus represents a valuable addition to EWE's business model.
Clear targets have been set for the continued expansion of renewable energies in swb's sustainability strategy: by 2020 the proportion of renewable energy in swb's total energy output is to reach an impressive 20 per cent, CO2 emissions are to be 20 per cent lower than the level of 2005 and energy efficiency is to improve by 20 per cent. swb is already involved in groundbreaking projects. Wind power will make a significant contribution to expanding this field. The subsidiary swb CREA is responsible for developing wind energy as a business area.
