EWE – energy, vision, future
As a multi-service provider, the EWE Group is active in three business areas: energy, information and communications technology. EWE has thus developed a unique integrated service for its customers. The company is a major employer with over 8.000 employees.
EWE is currently one of the largest energy companies in Germany. About 1,4 million electricity customers and 1,5 million natural gas customers rely on EWE for a secure and inexpensive supply of energy. EWE is involved along the entire value creation chain in the area of natural gas and electricity supply. EWE has expertise in transporting and storing natural gas as well as operating its own networks efficiently. The company also decided early on to focus on producing electricity and heat from renewable energies. Its expertise in this area is acknowledged throughout the industry. The company is one of the leading energy service providers in the northern German core region between the Ems and Elbe rivers. EWE is also marketing its services in other regions as well as internationally, for example in Poland and Turkey.
With the acquisition of Bremen based energy company swb EWE strengthens its expertise and value creation in the Bremen-Oldenburg region. EWE and swb are perfect matches since swb produces its own electricity and has experience in the areas of wastewater, district heating and the operation of urban infrastructures. As for EWE, it brings competence in regional utility provision, gas storage and in the use of renewable energies to the partnership.
Modern network infrastructure is the basis for an efficient energy supply and contributes actively to a sustainable energy supply. Environmentally friendly energy – for example wind or solar energy - is produced locally, placing huge demands on network management. EWE developed its expertise in efficient energy network management into a new core competency in the early 90's and established its information technology and telecommunications segment against the background of the liberalised telecommunications market.
The telecommunications segment now comprises several regional telecommunications service providers. The company's products range from traditional landline connections to internet services and mobile telephone services. EWE’s landline segment is one of the leading providers in the northern German Ems/Weser/Elbe region. The IT segment is another strong supporting pillar in this business area. This segment comprises IT consulting services as well as agency services such as setting up online shops or websites. EWE’s subsidiary BTC AG has grown into one of the largest IT consultancy houses in Germany and is involved in several industries in addition to the energy sector.
Despite internationalisation, EWE is proud of its roots as a regional utility. In all areas the companie of the EWE Group operate branches and make active contribution to the region's economic development in their capacity as employer, contracting body and operator of secure and efficient energy and telecommunications networks. As well as in the commitment to science and research.
