The future markets of information technology and telecommunications

EWE’s information and telecommunications technologies are the key for customer-oriented value added services and products with great future potential which incorporate an efficient electricity and gas supply. An attractive multimedia range drives growth in the traditional telecommunications area.

The EWE subsidiaries in the information technology and telecommunications segments have established themselves successfully in their markets. Several telecommunications companies in northern Germany as well as the international IT services provider BTC, together with its own subsidiaries, currently belong to the Group.

EWE’s telecommunications companies provide their customers with the entire range of landline, internet and mobile phone services. EWE’s high-performance network infrastructure, which the company has consistently modernised over recent years and intends to expand in the future, is an important driving factor. One example is the expansion of fibre optic networks which make it possible to provide attractive bundle offers of traditional telecommunications services, TV and multimedia products. These activities will also propel EWE forward in the future because customers increasingly expect attractive content as well as a smooth flow of information.

EWE’s subsidiary BTC has developed itself into an IT company which is both domestically and internationally active in providing a wide range of tailored IT solutions. Since 2000 the company has provided ground-breaking system solutions for its corporate customers, from process consulting to integrating IT systems and system management. EWE’s highly developed telecommunications and IT expertise also plays a key role in innovations in the convergence of energy, telecommunications and IT services. EWE is particularly involved in this area and is already developing new services for tomorrow’s markets.

EWE’s training building “ZentrumZukunft” is one example of the convergence of telecommunications, IT and energy services. In addition to a wide range of information and entertainment services, all of the information related to the building’s energy supply can be accessed and controlled from a central information portal. Another example is the eTelligence pilot project, which makes plans for the energy supply of the future a reality. At its core lies a regional electricity marketplace which brings producers, consumers, energy service providers and network operators together. Participants can connect with each other through cutting edge information and communications technology.
