EWE: a natural gas producer with a long tradition

EWE covers every stage of the natural gas value creation chain, from production and import, transport and storage through to distribution. The company has been involved in production since 1972, however only on a small scale as an upstream business.

In 2009 EWE produced about 200 million cubic metres of natural gas. EWE is involved in exploration off the coasts of Germany, Denmark, Great Britain and the Netherlands in its capacity as an upstream business. 

EWE has arranged on-going access to international natural gas sources, making its natural gas supply secure and reliable. EWE has agreed long-term contracts with several partners, particularly in Germany, Russia and the Netherlands.

Towering 15 metres above sea level and producing natural gas from rock formations which are around 280 million years old, the Z1 natural gas production platform, belonging to Germany’s largest natural gas producer, ExxonMobil Production Deutschland GmbH based in Hanover, is situated in the mouth of the Ems river near Manslagt.
