EWE: pioneering an environmentally friendly energy supply

As a municipal company, EWE considers itself particularly responsible for helping to shape a sustainable energy supply and has been committed for years to consistently expanding renewable energies.

EWE’s focus is on using wind energy, solar energy and biomass because wind and biomass are widely available in the northwest of Lower Saxony and also a large amount of area suitable for solar use.

EWE produces electricity in more than a hundred facilities of its own which use renewable energy sources and is expanding its production from renewable resources. The company is also researching new solutions for integrating the constantly increasing number of wind, photovoltaics or biogas facilities into the energy supply in an intelligent and efficient way in the future. EWE has broken promising new ground with its decentralised energy management system - one of EWE’s many research projects in the area of energy technology.

NaturWatt GmbH also trades in electricity derived exclusively from renewable energy sources and has been providing it since the start of 2008 across Germany. Instead of being paid out, profits are used to expand and support the use of renewable energies.

Landschaft im Nordwesten Niedersachsens

EWE primarily uses the renewable energy from wind and biomass to produce electricity. Both of these are abundant in the rural northwest of Lower Saxony.
