DOTI: the future of wind energy

The Deutsche Offshore-Testfeld und Infrastruktur-GmbH & Co. KG (DOTI) was formed in 2006 to realise the first offshore wind park in Germany, alpha ventus. EWE AG holds a 47.5% stake in DOTI, making it the lead company, and has carried out the project together with other energy industry partners. DOTI has leased the licensing rights to the test site from the Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft für die Nutzung und Erforschung der Windenergie auf See (Offshore Wind Energy Foundation) and have called it “Borkum West”. DOTI GmbH is based in Oldenburg.

There is no other project like alpha ventus in the world: the test site is located around 45 kilometres off the coast of Borkum, meaning about 60 kilometres from the mainland, and at a water depth of approximately 30 metres. alpha ventus tests innovative facility technology on the high seas and garner experience which will prove crucial for the future commercial use of offshore facilities, all the while taking its impact on the marine environment into account. In this way the project intends to make a significant contribution to the development of wind energy.

With the completion and official inauguration of alpha ventus in 2010, DOTI now runs the wind park with 12 wind energy plants in the five-megawatt class and an offshore transformer station.
