Bursagaz: driving growth in Turkey

EWE has created a strong foothold for itself in the boom market of Turkey by acquiring an 80 per cent holding in Turkish energy supplier Bursagaz A.S. Additional shareholder in the company is the Çalik Group, with a 10 per cent share. The other 10 per cent of the shares are held by the municipality of Bursa. Bursagaz is based in the city of Bursa, south of Istanbul.

Bursagaz (Bursa Sehirici Dogalgaz Dagitim Ticaret ve Taahüt A.S.) was founded in 2002 as a result of the privatisation of the Turkish energy market. The northwest part of Turkey holds particularly good prospects for businesses in the area because this region in the greater Instanbul area is one of the fastest-growing in the country. About 2.4 million people call this region home, and Bursagaz intends to provide complete natural gas coverage to the area through its own network by the end of 2008. The company is investing in developing a modern network infrastructure to meet this goal. Bursagaz currently supplies around 400,000 households with natural gas.
