Aequamus GmbH
Aequamus GmbH is a joint subsidiary of EWE NETZ GmbH, Erdgas Münster Transport GmbH & Co. KG and Gasunie Deutschland Transport Services GmbH. As of 1 April 2009 the partners have consolidated their respective low-grade gas market areas to form the collective market area L-Gas 1 and have commissioned Aequamus GmbH to carry out the balancing group management.
The new market area reaches from the North Sea coast to the Harz region and from the border with the Netherlands to Wolfsburg, and combines approximately 70 per cent of L-gas in Germany. Overall, L-gas accounts for 30 per cent of total gas in Germany.
Aequamus GmbH opens its control energy requirements (the amount of energy needed to maintain a constant operating pressure in the gas networks) for bidding on a monthly basis. This enables suppliers to make offers over short periods of time, thus making it easier for them to calculate volumes and prices.
Aequamus hopes that a large number of providers will participate in the bidding process, thereby stimulating the market. The company is also looking forward to increased flexibility and higher liquidity in the market for control energy in future.
